Color Theory Assignment Part C Writing

Color can be made up of and mixed from light or pigment.  In the subtractive color palette, which is used when mixing pigments, the primary colors are red, yellow, and blue, which make brown when mixed in the same quantities.  The additive color palette, which is used when mixing light such as on a computer screen, has the primary colors of red, green, and blue, which turn into white light when mixed.  Secondary colors come from the mixing of two primary colors, such as red and yellow making orange.  Tertiary colors are made when a primary color is combined with a secondary color, such as red and orange being mixed to make red-orange.  Colors carry deep biological and social/cultural connotations and meaning which influences us in different ways.  For example, the color red can represent stopping because of the connotation of stoplights and stop-signs and because it is a bright and noticeable color.  This is often taken advantage of in both art and marketing.  Colors can look very different when overlaid with different colors due to different levels of contrast.  Different combinations can also provoke different reactions from the viewer.
